Most rock crawlers run tire pressures around 10 psi to maximize tire grip for increased traction. Sand dune driving requires an even lower psi for maximum flotation. The beadlock keeps tires securely mounted to the rims during low tire pressure driving. The bead of the tire is pinched between an inner and outer ring with a series of bolts. When all bolts are properly torqued down tightly, the tire "bead" is "locked" to the rim. While these wheels are not legal for street use, beadlocks are very reliable and an indispensable accessory for the advanced trail rider.
